I’m a travel enthusiast who is raising her girls to be explorers! My goal is to help busy moms like you plan epic adventures with super-detailed itineraries, guides, and planning tips, so you can travel with your kids in confidence.
Hi, I'm Mona,
As a parent, I firmly believe that family travel is an invaluable experience that enriches the lives of both children and adults alike. It gives an opportunity to create lasting memories, foster stronger bonds and expose kids to experience different cultures. When children are exposed to different cultures, languages, and environments, they become more adaptable, open-minded, and tolerant individuals. They learn to embrace diversity and appreciate the beauty of our world. Moreover, family travel can enhance children’s educational experiences by providing them with hands-on learning opportunities.
One of the most significant benefits for us when we travel as a family has been the chance to spend quality time together as a family unit. In our fast-paced lives, it can be challenging to find moments of genuine connection amidst work, school, kids classes and other responsibilities. However, when we travel as a family, we are able to break free from our routines and focus solely on each other. Whether it’s hiking through breathtaking landscapes, exploring historical sites or simply playing by the beach together, family travel provides us with the opportunity to strengthen our relationships and create lifelong memories.
2023 was our family’s biggest travel year yet! We explored local destinations like South Padre Island, hiked through the breathtaking landscapes of Glacier National Park, embarked on a scenic road trip through the picturesque New England during the fall season. On the international front, we celebrated the Christmas holidays in Costa Rica. My husband and I also took trips separately with our friends to get some time away from family and fill our cups.
If one of your goals is to travel more this year, it’s crucial to understand the role mindset plays in achieving your travel dreams.
Having the right mindset can make all the difference when it comes to turning your travel goals into a reality. It’s about shifting your perspective, embracing a travel-focused mindset, and making travel a priority in your life.
If you believe that traveling as a family is out of reach or too difficult, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead, it’s time to shift your mindset and start believing in the possibilities. Understand that travel is not just a luxury, but an investment in your family’s happiness, growth, and connection.
So, let’s dive in and start embracing a travel-focused mindset for a fulfilling year ahead by replacing limiting beliefs with empowering thoughts and instead of saying, “We can’t afford it,” ask yourself, “How can we make it happen?” As Jim Kwik says “There are no limitations whatsoever when you align and apply the right mindset, motivation, and methods”.
Believe in yourself and prioritize time to travel and adventure. Trust me, your life will be a blast once you see the magic of the mountains and the thrill of a plane ride.
It’s common for families to face various obstacles when it comes to travel. One of the most common challenges is finding the time to travel amidst busy schedules and commitments. To overcome this obstacle, it’s important to prioritize travel and make it a non-negotiable part of your family’s routine. Block off dedicated travel time in your calendar and treat it as you would any other important commitment.
Another obstacle many families face is the fear of the unknown. Traveling to unfamiliar places can be intimidating, especially with children. However, with the right preparation and research, you can overcome this fear. Familiarize yourself with the destination, learn about local customs and traditions, and make a list of must-visit attractions and activities. By arming yourself with knowledge, you will feel more confident and at ease during your travels.
Now that you have shifted your mindset and overcome common travel obstacles, it’s time to plan your travel budget for 2024. Start by assessing your current financial situation and determine how much you can allocate towards travel. Create a dedicated travel fund and set realistic savings goals.
Starting a travel fund has been a game-changer for us when it comes to making travel a priority. Couple years back we set up a special bank account exclusively for our travel adventures and began automatically saving a small amount each month. Any extra money we make also goes straight into this travel fund.
The beauty of having a designated travel bank account is that it gives the flexibility to snag amazing flight deals whenever they pop up. If you’re looking to make travel a regular part of your life, consider opening a dedicated travel bank account. It’s a simple and effective way to ensure you’re always ready to take advantage of exciting travel opportunities without breaking the bank.
Additionally these are some other tips that we take into consideration for making our travel dreams a reality:
Travel rewards programs can be a game-changer when it comes to saving money on family travel. Many airlines, hotels, and credit card companies offer rewards programs that allow you to earn points or miles for your everyday spending. These points can then be redeemed for free or discounted flights, hotel stays, and more. Research different rewards programs and choose ones that align with your travel goals and spending habits.
To maximize your rewards, consider consolidating your spending with a single rewards program or credit card. This way, you can accumulate points faster and redeem them for more significant savings.
Take advantage of sign-up bonuses and promotional offers to kickstart your rewards earnings.
Remember to always pay off your credit card balance in full each month to avoid interest charges and fees.
Pro Tip: Never use the credit card travel portal to book flights or hotels or redeem your valuable points for statement credit. Points are worth way more when you transfer to travel partners and book through the airline or hotel website instead.
PLAN AHEAD. When it comes to family travel, making the most of your vacation time is crucial and with proper strategic planning, you can maximize your time and make the most of every moment.
By combining your vacation days with these already scheduled time off, you can extend your trips and make them more cost-effective.
Plan your itineraries in advance, but also allow for flexibility and downtime with kids. Remember, the goal is not to exhaust yourselves with a packed schedule but to create a balance between exploration and relaxation.
In 2024, it’s essential to explore alternative travel options that offer unique experiences while avoiding overcrowded tourist destinations that are often too expensive. Consider visiting lesser-known destinations that are off the beaten path. These hidden gems often offer authentic cultural experiences, untouched natural beauty, and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Another alternative travel option is to embrace slow travel. So instead of rushing from one place to another, slow down and immerse yourself in a single destination for a more in-depth experience. Engage with the community, try local cuisine, and explore the hidden corners that tourists often overlook. Even better, rent a house or apartment and live like a local.
Traveling on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing quality or experiences. With some smart planning and budgeting, you can have incredible adventures without breaking the bank. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your travel budget:
I hope you feel inspired and empowered to shift your mindset and make travel a priority for yourself and your family. Remember, travel is not just about visiting new places; it’s about creating lasting memories, strengthening bonds, and expanding horizons. By overcoming obstacles, planning strategically, and exploring alternative options, you can embark on incredible adventures and create a fulfilling year of family travel. So, pack your bags, embrace a travel-focused mindset, and get ready for an unforgettable journey in 2024!
